Pansol Diary

April 23, 2005

We assembled at McDo Sanciangco Hiway the day we went to Pansol... Three vans and 1 car kami..The girls rode on the white van
of batchmate Danilo Clamonte (Danny).. Here's where the kwento begins...Admittedly, I got introduced to Danny in one of the monthly
meetings so medyo kilala ko na siya... Ang passengers ni Danny: ako, Delia V (with teenage daughter), her best friend/classmate
Cherry Natividad (sorry Cherry, I referred to you as Dolly in an earlier email) - Cherry came with her teenage daughter, same age as
Delia's daughter and a son(Tonton), about 8 years old who had his own share of questions........

The other girls? Josefina Camacho and friend/classmate Vangie Rafael...Josie's son L.A. came along with her...
The ladies hardly knew Danny... They were wisphering to one another "Sino ba ang kasama natin? Ano ba ang pangalan nya?"
Before long, Josie Camacho volunteered the info she got from earlier attendance to meetings... Danny used to teach at NEHS with
Zelda Ilasin  but decided to shift to business..Danny has a stall in Sangitan selling pork, beef, lechon also -
(another stall in Mega - cellphones name)..... After awhile Cherry and DAnny realized they are "suki" with each other for some time -
Cherry calling Danny "Mang Danny".... not now, says Cherry...just Danny (for as long as corresponding discount will be given the
next time she purchases meat from the stall)....

Just one anecdote there.... Marami pa... The theme of the discussion inside our van is varied.... career paths, where the batchmates
are, parenting (kasali nga sa discussion and mga anak), El Shaddai and faith-related matters, food trip, atbp.... Nobody slept on
the trip to Pansol.... kulang ang oras sa kwentuhan.... Umalis kami 6am sa Cabanatuan... Dumating sa Calamba 12noon (lunch
sponsored by Ron and Cherry mendoza, pamangkin namin ni Angelito Malaca and Wesley Barayuga, at Nowella Aguilar)...

Tapos, libot kami bahay ni Rizal, the "banga" marker,  UP Los Banos, National Arts Center in Makiling etc... then off to the
Pansol resort...Ronald and Cherry Mendoza with 18year old  daughter RC and 13 year old John Ron - they were our gracious hosts
for lunch...They allowed us to view their 4story house that patis built...yes, they own Ron's Food Seasoning business in Calamba...

Ron and  Cherry have become Noel and Leah's friends after I got them introduced to each other some years back...Cherry
(nee Sarenas) is daughter of Juan Sarenas, first cousin to me and Olga and Wesley...You see,my aunt Febe Aguilar was a Vda. de
Sarenas before she became Mrs. Malaca--- got it? So, Kuya Junior, the father of Cherry is Lito Malaca's brother.... If Cherry is our
pamangkin, then RC and John Ron are grandchildren to me, hence the greeting "Hello Lola Petchett" upon our arrival (sabay mano)..

We feasted on kare-kare, rellenong bangus, chopsuey, fruits (pinabaunan pa kami ng pansit dun sa resort, abuso na yata to, sabi
namin)...After a brief rest, we were toured around Calamba (bahay ni Rizal) and then Los Banos (UPLB, National Arts Center area,
the magnet hill, etc.) until we were taken to Villa Sherisse, the private resort...Traffic to death! We reached the pool by 5pm...
The Mendoza's graciously turned us over to the Ocampos---Noel, Leah, Mitch, Nikki, Carla (tama ba spelling ko ng mga pangalan ninyo?)

Noel and Leah Ocampo deserve due acknowledgment for having hosted us at Pansol...(delayed telecast ba?) The Ocampo family
proved that "the family that sings together/makes music together stays together"...pambihira, kakainggit... beautiful voices, creative
minds, artful songs..... eveready hospitality, family spirit...

Delia Valino and Cherry Natividad were the best of high school friends, but their close friendship they were able to extend to the
Pansol group because of the bonding that was formed through the trip(now their children are close, daughters - same age, same
topics shared).... Josie Camacho and Vangie Rafael came together as buddies, but we, too were warmed by their
camaraderie and closeness.... Kung baga, tuwing may monthly meeting, di pwedeng di mo ma-catch ang NEHS 75 fever, tama
ba mga kasama sa Pansol?

The boys? Solid as can be... There's drinking, of course but I admired the non-drinkers who managed to join the trip and the tables
even without drinking, still feeling "in" in the process....
